ABOUT
The people in the community

Pst… heres more context... The locals are most commonly known as Ni-vans and speak their native language, Bislama. English and French are also spoken among the other people of color who inhabit this island, and sometimes by the locals too. Ni-vans are 'bush people' and farmers, meaning that they often live in rural areas with limited infrastructure. Their education system, as well as health services often fail them. Without proper education, people cannot get specialized, high paying jobs. Due to financial issues, ni-vans have a difficult time supporting their community and families. This also means that most kids do not even get schooled, or educated to begin with.

Ni-vans tend to live in big communities; all relatives of their family live in the same area with a tribal system, with a chief being the head/voice of the community. Because of financial challenges, it is difficult for them to afford proper housing. Communities usually live in small huts made of wood beams and metal sheets. Only a few families in the community can live in small buildings made of concrete walls and ground. These living conditions is the norm, Despite these conditions, Ni-vans live happily, and with a positive attitude.

ABOUT
PROJECT RF

Rising Faith is a project that will help the community of  Etas Zone 1 in Vanuatu. Where is Vanuatu? It is a small Pacific island located Northeast of Australia; it relies on agriculture, and natural scenery for tourism as its main sources of income. There are a total of around 83 islands, that make up this country. It is also known for its diverse culture as well and fascinating traditions.

The people in the community

Etas Zone 1 is the name of the community that we aim to help. This community is seriously struggling with financial issues. Building a church had been a dream of this community’s, but it seems to be so out of reach due to these financial issues. Not only will it be a church, but also a shelter for the people when cyclone season hits. Natural disasters are common for tropical islands in the Pacific, but are also very destructive: smaller cyclones might just be heavy rain for a few weeks but bigger ones can sweep away houses and cars. Helping them build a church would serve as a basic defense against natural disaster by giving them a place to take refuge.

But what can we do to help?
It seems like a huge task and you're not wrong, but with your support and donations, we can fundraise enough money to help build up a church for them. Any amount of donation is very much appreciated. Also, by coming to this website and interacting with any of our social media, you are already contributing to our cause.

Why does some of our photos look blurry while others are not?

Rutha took the blurry ones on her phone and Rutha's second cousin Hendry used his cannon camera to take the other pictures.
